In the Milky Way Galaxy, there are a few big empires at work. The Earth is the political center of the Triconian empire, who's goal is for the most part, to "peacefully" extend its bounds ever farther across the galaxy. This is being kept in check by two other factors.
The Earth had been dominated for over a decade by an Alien species called the Armex, who were vanquished about 20 years ago from Triconian space. During this occupation, vast amounts of the Earth's resources were mined, stripped and drained off the planet. Not just mineral resources, but biomass in the forms of animals, human subjects and flora. This occupation has left the Triconians with a crippled but rebudding space fleet, and a severely impoverished population.
Outside of the Triconian Empire, which has regained strength to about 15 planets now, are two older, much more powerful space nations. The Orisians are a militocratic space empire with a vast, well developed war machine. They want to take over the galaxy for themselves (just like the Triconians). Orisians are mighty foe with a large planet-base and vast military forces.
On the other side of the sector: the Cyran Empire. The Cyran Empire is a confederation of planets ruled by a super-species of genetically engineered humans called Cyrans. Recently, there has been political rapture along historical divisions in the Cyran Empire, splitting them into two factions. The majority is allied with the Triconians. The other half is trying to remain fiercely independent. The Cyran empire could easily crush the Triconians, though.
The Triconian's side however, has two powerful resources: the neutral worlds, which if played right will help the Triconians, and old allies called the Blackthorn Triconians. The Blackthorn Triconians have settled across the sector from Earth, and are gaining economic power daily from the neutral worlds. After the Armex occupation of Earth, the Blackthorn Triconians were a powerful resource just waiting to be rejoined to the Triconian whole, which just recently occurred. Trade and autonomy issues are in flux between the Blackthorn and (Neo) Triconian empires right now.
For a broader, more useful scope of this picture: all this drama is taking place in JUST ONE SECTOR of the galaxy. There are 25 sectors in the Milky way. Each sector is divided into 64 sub-sectors, which are like solar "neighborhoods" of star systems. Most modules usually just occur within a single, or maybe two, sub-sectors. Some modules could be galaxy-wide, though.
The game covers a very broad time-scope, as well: The whole galaxy is just coming out of a galactic dark-age which has lasted for 5000 years. Millions of planets disappeared off the maps, whole histories were lost, and even the standard system of dating, from the old Triconian empire of five millennia ago, had been lost. People just know it was about five-thousand years of barbaric galactic conditions which had occurred! (Yay for carbon-14 dating--It had to be re-invented!)
There are many species out there, and some are extra-galactic (outside the Milky Way) in origin. There are billion-year old technologies out in the vastness of space waiting to be captured and studied. But survival of the Triconian Empire is of paramount concern nowadays...
This is where you, a player character, fit into this universe. In Robowars, you can be an anybody, starting off anywhere, with any career or adventure in mind. You don't have to be Triconian, you could be Orisian, trying to do your part for the Empire, or you could be a rouge human or Cyran from a neutral planet just trying to make a buck...or a bang!
This is the basis of Robo...outrageous role playing of any type of character in the Robo universe. Included following this are some examples of typical Robowars storylines taken from typical adventure settings. These should give you a better idea about what type of gaming Robo is gauged around.
